Carmen Maria Machado is a newer author that has only been active for the past decade or so. She has several works published that uses unique genres, like horror and science fiction, to tell stories about women as well as her own personal life. Having dealt with many issues growing up ranging from self-image issues to abusive relationships, Machado is now happily married to Val Howlett and teaching at UPenn.
