Eryn Wise

Eryn Wise is part of the Jicarilla Apache National and Laguna Pueblo Tribes. She is an organizer for climate justice and indigenous rights. She was raised in Minneapolis, where she was raised with the Ojibwe, Dakota, and Potawatomi people. She contrasts the life of Americans, that is so wasteful of the environment, with one of the tribes, that is so connected with the land. Today she is the digital director of Seeding Sovereignty, and organizes the Indigenous Impact Rapid Response Initiative to support indigenous communities during the pandemic.  She stayed protesting for 2 years. She works with many LGBTQ and indigenous youth to make a safe space for them to be themselves, and likens pride to a “queer new year,’ where her and her peers can live as themselves. She doesn’t hope to empower them, but rather help them to see the power they already possess, and overcome systematic injustices.
