The Taínos are the indigenous natives that pre-colonial times. The Spaniards came with the discovery of the Americas, they brought technology and Catholicism to the island. The Africans were brought as slaves to the island, but from their harsh experiences, they created song and dance. It is the unique mix of these three races and cultures, along with time and the evolution of society that has created the modern that Puerto Rican.
