Earth’s Rotation Day Handout

Celebrate Earth’s Rotation Day on January 8th by learning about the Earth’s rotations! Earth has two rotations: one around the sun (which is also called its orbit) and one around its own axis. Earth takes one day to rotate around its own axis and a year to revolve around the sun.

The orbit around the sun is responsible for the changing seasons.

The rotation around the axis is responsible for night and day.

Where you live on the Earth affects the seasons as well as the time of day. When the northern hemisphere is in winter, the southern hemisphere is in summer.
